The Biggest K-Beauty Trends of 2016

cleansingwaterThe Korean Beauty market (otherwise known as K-Beauty) is changing the beauty industry around the world. Former naysayers have tried the 10-step Korean skincare routine and seen firsthand the transformative power of treating their skin with care, respect, and gentle ingredients.

Now, more and more people are paying attention to K-Beauty and how they can take Korean skincare ideals and apply them to their own skincare routine. Here’s a look at four of the biggest K-Beauty skincare trends and how they can be introduced into your daily beauty regimen.

  1. Cleansing Oils
A cleansing oil is a non-comedogenic oil blend designed to melt away makeup and debris while nourishing and moisturizing the skin. Nothing will leave your skin as clean as a cleansing oil will! It’s used in addition to — not instead of — your normal skin care cleanser, so it’s very easy to add into your routine without replacing a current favorite.
  2. Water-Free Cleansing
Another cleansing trend to come from Korean beauty is a water-free cleansing regimen. Special moisturizing cleansers, like our Real Barrier Cleansing Water, is able to provide all the benefits of traditional cleansing without exposing your skin to the harsh possibilities of water. Any skin type can benefit from this cleansing option, but it’s especially beneficial for dry skin, sensitive skin, or those with hard water at home.
  3. Sheet Masks
One K-Beauty trend you’ve most certainly heard of is sheet masks. These pre-soaked sheets are saturated with concentrated skin care ingredients to give your skin a boost. They are usually inexpensive, gentle enough for daily use, and widely available. Bonus: some are even patterned, which really ups your #sheetmaskselfie game.
  4. Moisture Matters
One interesting trend to come from Korean beauty this year is to pay more attention to how the skin is hydrated, rather than just caring about it being hydrated in general. Some brands changed the water base of their products to filtered or even mineral water, while Atopalm emphasized the restorative and deeply hydrating benefits of our patented MLE. One Korean celebrity says her trick is to apply skin care moisturizer to her face within five seconds of cleansing.

Whether or not you add any K-Beauty tips to your skin care regimen, one thing’s certain: the Korean beauty industry is seriously impacting the beauty world at large. Atopalm is proud to be the #1 dry skin care brand in South Korea for 10 years and running, and we’re excited to see what our peers add to the beauty world next!
